Photo Stories Week 3: Golden Hour in Northern Michigan
If there is a certain area whose beauty outshines anywhere else for me, it’s the incredible lakes in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Northern Michigan has always been known for its incredible sunsets, and the pictures I captured definitely did this statement justice. For about 10 years, my family has traveled to the same area each summer because we can’t seem to get away from the beauty it presents. Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is nationally-acclaimed for being one of the most beautiful places in America, has always been the area we have come back to. Glen Lake, which borders Sleeping Bear Dunes, presents one of the most incredible landscapes to capture with a camera. The place where we stayed this past summer presented us with the view of the clear glacier lake with Sleeping Bear Dunes in the horizon. When the sun went down, however, is when everything changed and I could capture pictures like this.
The antique boat which was sitting anchored in the lake was there for the entire week we were staying. The boat served as the perfect subject matter for this picture. The silhouette of the boat adds a great layer to the photo and creates a lot of depth of feel. However, the sky steals the picture. The amount of different colors that are being presented make this picture what it is. The sky creates an incredible reflection off of the water as well, which gives the picture even more color.
Another great feature of the picturess the clouds popping up all over the horizon. They are quite difficult to notice at first glance, but when you really look at the picture in depth, you can start to see all the clouds dancing all over the horizon. When I first noticed this, I was very amazed because I had never seen anything like it before, and it made it better that I was able to capture it with my camera.
Glen Lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes will always be one of my favorite locations to come back to, there is just something special about it.
This picture is amazing. WOW. Everything about this just fits in the photo so well. Then when I read your blog, you pointed out things that you don't see from the first look at the picture that make it even more stunning. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteMy family loveesssss to travel to the upper peninsula! Everything is so peaceful and beautiful up there. If you have never been to Tahquamenon Falls, I highly recommend going. The falls are beautiful whether it is summer or winter. There is also a really great restaurant right by the falls as well! A picture of the falls would be stunningggg.
