Tiger Woods and His Chase for 82 Wins

Ever since Tiger Woods went through numerous back and knee surgeries and wasn’t playing in any professional golf tournaments because of the pain he was going through, most journalists, tv and radio show hosts, and even us as common sports fans thought he was finished. We thought he would never catch the major championship record of 18 majors set by the great Jack Nicklaus. This great record has been gnawing at Tiger Woods ever since he won his very first major 22 years ago, and it still does today. Even when he was down and injured, Tiger still remained optimistic about catching Jack’s record before his great career comes to an end. Nobody ever believed it would actually happen though. There was a point in Tiger’s career when he couldn’t even get out of bed to go pick up his kids at school, or get up out of chair to move around his back hurt so much. One of the only people who didn’t doubt Tiger Woods was the man himself. After Tiger’s final back surgery two years ago, Tiger has been on the comeback trail on the PGA TOUR, and last week when he finally got major number 15 at the Masters, solidifying one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, the golf world knew he had a chance. The golf world knew  Tiger, 43 years old, could possibly win three more major championships before his career comes to an end. Jack Nicklaus, the man who holds the record right now, didn’t win his last major championship until he was 46 years old. He won it when everybody thought he was washed up and finished winning major championships or any kind of tournament. But this previous Sunday at the Masters proved once and for all, anything is possible. It also felt like the start of more to come and the resumption of the chase Nicklaus’ all-time record. “The 15th was always going to be the hardest,” said a smirking Rickie Fowler about the resumption of the record chase. Whether you were another player or scoreboard operator, Sunday at the Masters was an uninhibited celebration of Tiger’s history with the sport, the fans, and the tournament. The day was loaded with markers of the past, and also of what could be coming next”.

  1. Many people have doubted his abilities to reach Jack's bar that was set after all of the knee injuries and back fusion procedures. Hopefully this Master's win can light the fire again and bring back the Tiger we all watched win repeatedly, over and over again.
