The Tiger Timeline

Tiger Woods had everything anyone could ever ask for. The amount of records, accolades, and wins Tiger would gain in his early career would be astounding. He won the Masters by 12 shots and the U.S Open by 15 shots, two feats nobody ever thought was possible. He would also become the first golfer to win three majors in one season in almost a century. Going into the 2001 season, Tiger needed to win the Masters in order to win four straight majors, which he did. This amazing accomplishment would be nicknamed, “The Tiger Slam”. Tiger Woods transcended the sport for the next six to seven years, coming to a total of 14 majors and 71 victories in just 12 years. Through all his victories and sponsorships, Tiger put off this good, down to earth married guy with all the luxuries anyone could ever dream of, which made his downfall even more surprising.
On November 27, 2009, news broke about Woods being involved in a one car accident at his home in Florida on Thanksgiving night. At first, he was in critical condition, but then he was released from the hospital and was questioned by authorities. Many women would come forward and talk about the affairs they had with the global superstar. He was scrutinized and made fun of, his public image was destroyed. Tiger would lose most of his sponsorships but more drastic was, he lost his respect.

Tiger would return, but he wouldn’t be the same. He would suffer more back injuries and knee injuries, more pitfalls and more rises, until it felt like Tiger was finally done when he was pulled over near his home in Florida in March 2017 by police, passed out at the wheel with suspicion of DUI. He would go on social probation and then underwent a spinal disk surgery in late 2017. Tiger would go into 2018, the comeback year. Most golf and sport analysts said even though he looked healthy and was playing good golf, but he would never win again. However, at the final tournament of the year, Tiger Woods entered the final round with the lead, and everyone hoped this would be the tournament Tiger Woods was going to win. He would get some pressure down the stretch but once he had that two-shot lead on the final hole, it was over. The sports world knew he had it won, and the scene on the final hole was insane. Everyone knew this was more than just a win, it was a statement.

  1. I remember growing up watching Tiger play and he was a real inspiration to many golf fans. It is a real shame he never fully recovered from everything that happened, but I believe he will always be one of the best golfers to have played the game.
