How Social Media is More Professional Than I Thought

When I entered this semester, I thought social media was just a place for people to connect, share information and give feedback. I had no idea it was such a vital tool for so many other reasons. Over this semester, I have learned so much about how important social media has become in today’s society. Social media professionals are becoming very popular in today’s work environment due to their expertise in the field. A presence on social media is so vital if you want to build a positive brand. “If you work in a knowledge industry (that’s most of us these days) or the creative arts, then it is essential to define and market yourself online. Influence, knowledge and power have been digitized. There is no turning back. If you want to continue to be effective and relevant, there’s no other choice. Jobs, careers and businesses are being created, driven and determined by the social web….But social media is where that content becomes distributed and amplified as people discover your content on social networks and share it with their friends”. Communities have developed and grown since social media was formed. Platforms like Facebook have allowed users to create these and stay in touch.
