"Social Media for Strategic Communication": Chapter 7

In chapter 7 of the book “Social Media and Strategic Communication” it talks about how to write strategically for social media. I learned writing in an effective way on social media is one of the most challenging things to do for public relations professionals. This is why many job postings emphasize this fundamental a very important skill you must have in order to be a successful social media professional. Writing is the most important way to connect with your audiences, but in order to be a successful at it, you need have strong skills along with the six Cs of effective writing for social media:
·     Content
·     Community
·     Culture
·     Conversation
·     Creativity
·     Connection
Content- Good content is important for social media professionals because it has to be able to relate with your audience.
Community- Community is a group of individuals who come together based on common interests, values, and characteristics. This is also something a journalist needs to take in to account because your content has to be able to reach and resonate with your audiences.
Conversation- This is also important in making sure social media content resonates with your audiences. People don’t just want to be promoted or advertised all the time. This will most likely make them tune out and go on to the next piece of content they have on their feed. Conversation is not just responding to a comment, but engaging in a discussion which is meaningful for both parties. This where knowing what your brand voice and writing style is comes in to consideration and why it’s so important.
Creativity- Being creative in your posts is important when trying to engage with your audience.
Connections- Doing all of these things can help you build more and more connections helping become more successful.

Brand voice is also important in reaching your audience because your audience embodies what your company stands for and what your personality characteristics are. These characteristics are what makes you unique, memorable, and authentic. All brands have an individual voice that is different from everyone else’s. This is different from your brand tone, which is the overall voice characteristics you want to interject within the content you are writing. These are just some of the things I learned from this chapter and I hope to learn more in the coming pages.
