Dustin Johnson Proves He's The Best With Win In Mexico

Winning professional golf tournaments is one of the hardest things to do. Since there are so many talented golfers playing on the professional circuit these days, winning doesn’t come easy. Tiger Woods has been the most recent golfer to make it look like an easy thing to do, winning 80 golf tournaments including 14 major championships in a span of 22 years. Now Dustin Johnson may not get to Tiger’s numbers by the time his career is over, but he sure is proving he’s one of the greatest golfers of his generation. Johnson would again make things look easy last Sunday at the WGC Mexico Championship. The 34-year-old would blow out the star-filled field in Mexico, winning by five shots over Rory Mcilroy. This was a very special win for Johnson, because it was his 20th PGA TOUR win of his career. In fact, he is only the 5th golfer in the last 50 years to win 20 PGA TOUR events before the age of 35. This is an elite group of golfers that include the likes of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, who arguably are the two best golfers to ever play the game. If joining this elite club wasn’t enough, Johnson also accomplished the feat of winning every year on tour for 12 seasons, which has only been done by three other people in the history of golf. It’s Johnson’s mental toughness makes him better than any golfer out there. You not only have to have talent, but also the ability to overcome adversity on the golf course as well. Johnson has learned getting mad while playing doesn’t get him anywhere, so he controls his emotions and is always calm, even when faced with the pressure of winning. Johnson is just a calm player, he doesn’t do anything fancy or out of the ordinary, he just plays golf. Golf Digest Writer Joel Beall said “From Jones to Hogan to Nicklaus to Watson to Woods to Spieth, the best have been able to explain their sport in scholarly tones. Their discourse is intuitive and serious; Johnson is decidedly not. He talks about the game like it's a game. Nothing more. As such, his press conferences have become somewhat infamous, reporters' long-winded questions met with blunt responses” Johnson may not be everyone’s favorite, or the most entertaining golfer, but he gets the job done on the course, and from the looks of it, he gets it done pretty well.
