Wendy's Twitter Empire: How a Fast Food Restaurant Became King of Social Media
Twitter is a place where people can express themselves and share ideas with the world. Well, Wendy's Restaurant sure took advantage of this platform to portray the real image of its fast-food empire. Lately, Wendy's has been receiving attention for its tweets and online social media campaigns that have put the restaurant chain in a group of some of the best social media personalities on Twitter. Wendy's Twitter page is a perfect example of how a company can use social media to its advantage. When you think of a fast food restaurant like Wendy's, you probably don't think of a corporation that is humorous and relaxed, but that's exactly the image it has put off. This is what social media can do for a company, and it has been working extremely well for Wendy's. Lately, Wendy's Twitter account has been roasting its competition in order to make them look good and other fast food places look bad. Surprisingly, it has worked, and many of its posts have gone viral. Most of the time Wendy's just tries to go for its competition, then there are times when the posts are just flat out funny.
The company’s social media team has held nothing back when it comes to calling out its competition, and it has gained them a lot of followers in the meantime. What Wendy’s is doing is an example of companies adapting to the changing times we are in. Wendy’s knew that if they wanted to attract a younger population, they had to relate to them in some way. This was their solution, with humor and laid back content. The reason why this is working so well is because while Wendy’s is posting these tweets with lots of humor and wit, it is also promoting their products in a positive way. So while Wendy’s is roasting its competition, it’s also talking about how it serves “fresh and never frozen” beef at all of its restaurants, something that they accuse a certain other fast-food empire of quite a bit.
Just looking at the number of likes, comments, and retweets of these posts, anybody can see that this a huge hit. I feel like this should be an example to all other companies, that if you want to attract consumers, you have to create an image of who you want the public to see. Will Wendy’s gain any new business and profit? It might. However, one thing is for sure, it has everybody’s attention.
I've looked at Wendy's Twitter s many times and it's crazy to see how many people they have reached through it. The people at Wendy's also released an entire album on Spotify, they are really reaching for that younger demographic!
